In construction field we do traversing in 3 methods-Coordinate method,Angle and distance method and Triangulation method.In traversing , the framework consisted of a number of connected line .the length are measure by chain or tape and the directions identified by angle measurement instrument compass.
Triangulation Method of Traversing
In surveying ,the area to be surveyed is divided into a number of triangles .this method is suitable for fairly level ground covering small area .But when the area is large , undulating and crowded with many details triangulation (which is the principle of survey ) is not possible . In such in area , the method of traversing is adopted.

But now a day we are use a good accuracy Total Station instrument for doing traversing, topographic survey,setting out and many more survey related activity.Remember always do traverse in an anticlockwise direction of survey lines.In construction field we do traversing in 3 methods.
In coordinate method we started from two known point with imputing coordinate of station point and backside and doing traversing in an anticlockwise,continue to fixed new point in traversing and at-last closed a known point. Usually we use it in low accuracy projects like road project canal project.

In angle distance method we started from two known point but not impute coordinate of station point and backside only take interior angle,exterior angle and distance,continue to fixed new point in traversing and at-last closed a known point.This a good accuracy method of traversing Usually we use it in bridge project , power plant project and many others accuracy projects.
Triangulation method :-
In triangulation method we started from two known point station point and back side(you can apply above two method) and fixed a new point.After fixing the new point recheck the back side of previous setting.continue this method in cyclic order and at-last closed a known point.This a best accuracy method of traversing, you can use it in any accuracy project.
